My Take

I’ve been using the Chase Sapphire Preferred for several years now, and it’s earned a permanent place in my wallet as one of my go-to “keeper cards”.

Many experts rate it as the best travel card for beginners, and I completely agree.

The $95 annual fee is super easy to justify when you consider the $50 annual hotel credit you get, plus the ability to transfer your points to Chase’s transfer partners, plus 1.25x redemption bonus for travel in the Chase Travel℠ portal.

In my opinion, it’s a foundational card every traveler should have in their wallet if you’re interested in earning free travel with Chase Ultimate Rewards.

I personally use the Sapphire Preferred card for all of my dining and travel-related expenses, which allows me to stack up points 2-3x faster.

I also use it to pay for flights when I’m checking bags since the Sapphire Preferred includes lost and delayed baggage coverage.

Overall, most agree that if you want to get into earning free travel with points and miles, the Chase Sapphire Preferred is one of the best places to start.
