TL;DR – Is it Worth it?
Before Location Rebel, I’d NEVER spent this much money on a course. I was super hesitant before pulling the trigger and went back and forth for an entire week.
But I bit the bullet (without telling my wife 😈) and am SO glad I did.
Long story short—Location Rebel will save you loads of time and headaches IF you are just getting started on your location independence journey (read on to see why).
But if you’re already earning decent money online (or are 110% sure what you want to do), then you may not need it.
Either way, with the 30-day guarantee, you can test it out risk-free and decide for yourself.
If you like it, awesome! If not, get your money back.

Alrighty then! On to the nitty-grittys!
Let’s start with a behind-the-scenes look at the course itself…
Inside Look at Location Rebel Academy
What’s Included In The Course
UPDATE: Since publishing this review, Sean completely overhauled the course. The updated Location Rebel includes everything you see here, except it’s way slicker.
If you skipped the video above, here’s a recap of everything that’s included (the video will give you a better feel of what it actually looks like and what to expect)
The course layout isn’t the most organized, but it’s basically broken down into three main parts:
- The Blueprints
- The Forum
- The Bonuses
#1.) The Blueprints
The Entrepreneur Blueprints are the main “meat” of the course. They were created to help you choose which path is best for you, and show you how to get started.
For me, this was INSANELY helpful.
I like to compare a brand new online entrepreneur to a person stumbling through a pitch-black room full of doors.
When you’re just starting, all you have is a tiny flashlight. You might find one door, get excited about the business model, and latch on…without even realizing all the other “doors” you have.
This is exactly what I did.
I randomly found a podcast on building Amazon FBA businesses, got hooked, invested (and then lost) $10,000.
It sucked! Like, really bad. I just about called it quits on building a business altogether.
But then I found Location Rebel, and it was like all the lights in that room suddenly turned on.
I was able to see all the different paths laid out for me in one place and make an informed decision on which made the most sense for me. (instead of charging down the Amazon rabbit hole with blinders on).
Here’s a list of the different blueprints:
▶ The Mindset Blueprint – This one builds your foundation. Without the right mindset, it doesn’t matter which door you choose.
▶ Content Writing Blueprint (recently updated to the Freelance Writing Blueprint
▶ Make $10k/Month Copywriting (with Ashley Ambirge)
▶ Make $60/Hour with Technical Writing (with Alison Gresik)
▶ How to Become an SEO Freelancer (with Sean Ogle)
▶ How to Become a Freelance Pay Per Click Ninja (with Joel Runyon)
▶ The Beginner’s Sales Blueprint (with David Anderson)
▶ Creating a Successful Remote Work Agreement (with Jimmy Neyhart)
▶ How to Become a Social Media Master
▶ How to Build a Successful E-Commerce Store (with Dan Andrews)
▶ How to Earn Passive Income via Product Creation (with Derek Johanson)
▶ The Location Rebel Guide to Affiliate Marketing
▶ Creating the Perfect Business Structure (with Kyle Durand)
▶ The Advanced Sales Blueprint (with David Anderson)
The cool thing about these blueprints is that they were each created by experts in that field.
Now, these blueprints are just that…blueprints. They don’t teach you enough to become a master at each skill. Rather, they were written to…
- Give you an honest look at the lifestyle you can expect with each business
- Teach you a solid foundation of the basics (i.e. become a relative expert, or someone who knows enough to impress someone not familiar with the field).
- Show you where to learn more advanced skills
Or going back to the dark room example…
Location Rebel is the light switch that allows you to see all the doors (and a peek inside). Once you choose the best door for you, you’ll need to continue your training elsewhere.
(The exception to this is with the Freelance Writing Blueprint, which is pretty dang comprehensive).
#2.) The Forum
This is where the magic happens.
Run by Sean and his trusty community manager, Liz (a veteran freelance writer), the forum is hands down one of the most valuable parts of the course.
Starting a lifestyle business is hard to do by yourself…especially if your friends and family don’t really “get” it.
With the forum, you’re surrounded and supported by hundreds of other people just like you. If you ever have doubts during your journey (spoiler: you’ll have LOTS of them), just pop in the forums. Odds are somebody has already “been there, done that”.
The forum is also a great place to network and form small accountability groups.
I matched up with an accountability partner when I first started, but our meetings fizzled out pretty quickly (which was my fault). I’m sure other members have created long-lasting support groups though.
But accountability and support aren’t the only cool things about the forum…
Liz is also constantly posting tons of cool remote and freelance opportunities she finds all over the internet.
Not only that, but other members—who are further along in their journey—post jobs for new members. (This is where I found one of my very first freelance writing jobs, which helped me build experience to land more projects down the road.)
Lastly, I also really like how you’re able to set up custom email notifications. I have mine set so I get one email per week with all the forum highlights. If it weren’t for the notifications, I’d probably forget to check in to see all the new opportunities.
#3.) The Bonuses
To be honest, it’s kind of hard to tell what is “bonus” and what is part of the actual course. But that doesn’t really matter.
All that’s important is that if you do some clicking around, you’ll be surprised with LOTS of goodies (stuff you probably didn’t even realize was included).
Here’s a list of all the stuff you get apart from the blueprints and the forum:
How to Start a Blog Mini-Course: There are lots of guides like this online for free, but it’s nice to have everything all in one place. Nowadays the problem isn’t lack of free info online, it’s an OVERLOAD of too many voices saying different things.
Overcoming Fear and Uncertainty Course: Leaving your comfort zone to start a lifestyle business is scary. This course helps you get over these fears and charge ahead with confidence.
Hacking the High Life Course: This course is full of creative hacks Sean has discovered to score free or heavily discounted luxury experiences.
12-Week Freelance Writing Bootcamp: This bootcamp shows you step-by-step how to get your freelance writing business off the ground and building up your income.
Freelancer Pricing Guide: Pricing your services seems to be a big stumbling block for new freelancers. This short guide shows you how to charge what you’re worth (and avoid burning out).
Recordings of past webinars and Q+A calls: These archives are full of gold nuggets. (Disclaimer: There’s a LOT of content here, and I haven’t watched it all).
List of 12 awesome books every Rebel should read: While I’m a big proponent of reading as many books as possible, you can save a lot of time by choosing the right books to read first. In this section, he lists off his top pick for different purposes (disciple, productivity, being memorable, networking, persuasion, etc).
Info-Product Creating Framework: This was created by Derek Johanson, the creator of Copyhour. It’s a step-by-step framework for organizing and creating info products (e.g. online courses).
SEO Optimization Templates: These are the spreadsheets Sean used when he worked as a freelance SEO. They’d be very helpful if you plan to offer SEO services to clients.
Archived Courses: There are four archived courses: Writing Proposals for UpWork, How to Become a Professional Project Manager, Becoming a Web Developer, Make Six Figures as an Advertising Rockstar. These are archived because they weren’t as popular with students as some of the other blueprints, so they are no longer being updated.
And there you have it.
It’s a LOT of content. And you probably won’t use it all. But the idea is that you have everything you need to choose the best path for you (whatever that may be), how to get started, and the support to overcome obstacles along the way.
Will Location Rebel Help Me Replace My Income?
Sean’s a big proponent of using a “bridge business”—a temporary business that helps you get from where you are now to where you want to be (running your dream lifestyle business).
A bridge business is something that uses skills you already have to start earning money QUICKLY.
While it might not be your favorite thing to do, it’s the quickest way to replace your full-time income. Once you do that (and have your “freedom”), you can start slowly working towards your ultimate lifestyle business goal.
In Location Rebel, Sean shows exactly how to build a freelance writing bridge business.
So, let’s say you go through the blueprints and decide that you’d love to run a successful E-Commerce store one day.
Well, going from zero to successful E-Commerce store can take a LONG time. You can bridge that gap (and learn tons of valuable skills in the process) with freelance writing.
Location Rebel has EVERYTHING you need to become a successful freelance writer (and more) as quickly as possible.
So, yes. Location Rebel will show you how to replace your income with a bridge business. From there, you decide whether you want to continue on your bridge, or shift to another path.
What Location Rebel is NOT
As I mentioned earlier.
Location Rebel shows you…
- An overview of the different paths you can take
- What each lifestyle is like
- Tips for getting started
- How to build your bridge business (i.e. freelance writing)
…but it does NOT give complete training on each skill.
The idea is to give you a taste for each one to see which you like, then send you off in the right direction with some solid resources.
Let’s take the copywriting blueprint, for example.
Ashley Ambirge, an extremely talented (and hilarious) copywriter gives you the rundown on what the world of copywriting is like. She also includes a “Kickstart Copy Course” to help you flex your copywriting muscles and decide if it’s right for you.
But it’s by no means a comprehensive training that’ll make you a pro copywriter (for that, I highly recommend Copyhour, the course I took (3 times!) to ingrain copywriting into my brain (see my full Copyhour review here).
The whole idea of Location Rebel is to help you confidently choose the right path (so you don’t waste time and money blasting down the wrong one…like I did).
Location Rebel Review: Pros and Cons
What I DIDN’T like
❌ There are a few modules that could use a quick facelift. Some of the info is the same as it was when I bought the course 3 years ago. That said, a lot of this info is timeless. And most of the info that isn’t timeless has been updated (like the brand new Freelance Writing Blueprint).
❌ It’s kinda disorganized. I mean, it’s chock-full of valuable content. But sometimes you have to hunt to find what you’re looking for.
❌ Most of the course is text. It would be cool if he had video lessons to go along with each module (or even some images). That would make going through the course more fun and engaging.
What I DID like
✅ The forum is pretty amazing. Accountability is what separates success stories from those who fizzle out, give up, and crawl back to their unfulfilling day jobs. This is probably the biggest active community of lifestyle entrepreneurs out there, and it’s easy to plug in with an accountability group.
✅ Breaks down all your options in one place and helps you quickly decide which is the best route for you. It’s a perfect starting point for beginners to help them avoid chasing after one path with blinders on.
✅ Email updates with new remote job and freelancing opportunities. This saves tons of time having to search for things yourself.
✅ Live Q+A calls with Sean and Liz are really cool (but they don’t seem to have a consistent schedule).
✅ Sean is personally invested in your success. This isn’t just a course you buy and then are left on your own. If you ever need help with anything, you WILL get personal attention.
✅ 30-day guarantee let’s you test it out risk-free to see if it’s for you.
The Verdict: Is Location Rebel worth it?
Location Rebel will be SUPER valuable to some people, and not so much to others.
This table should help you decide:
This is for you if…
🟢 You’re somewhat new to the idea of a lifestyle business you can build from your computer.
🟢 You want to know all your options before deciding on one.
🟢 You want accountability to keep you on track and support you during tough times.
🟢 You feel overwhelmed and confused by all the different voices and opinions online, and want everything you need to get started in one place.
This is NOT for you if…
🔴 You’re already making decent money online.
🔴 You’re already 100% sure of the path you want to take, and just want in-depth training on one skill.
🔴 You’re not interested in freelance writing (it’s not completely necessary, but it’s a big theme in the course).
🔴 You aren’t willing to read through the lessons (not many videos).
🔴 You don’t plan on taking advantage of the forums.
How LRA Could Actually SAVE You Money
I’ve reached out to Sean, and unfortunately he doesn’t offer discounts on LRA. That said, here’s how it could end up saving you money.
I’ve spent A LOT of money on courses over the past three years.
Some were good investments. Others not so much.
Nowadays whenever I’m thinking about buying a new course, I ask myself two questions:
#1.) Does this course teach the NEXT STEP for me? If the courses teach something you want to be able to do eventually, I wouldn’t buy it. It’ll either distract you from what you’re doing now, or it’ll collect dust and never get used. Location Rebel Academy is the FIRST STEP for people interested in building a lifestyle business. So if that sounds like you, green light.
#2.) How much time will this save me? After wasting hundreds (maybe thousands) of hours going in the wrong direction, I now appreciate the value of my time.
How much money could I have earned if I hadn’t wasted all those months stubbornly trying to figure things out all by myself?
It’s not fun to think about, but it’s taught me a valuable lesson…
When it comes to investing in my online business, I now focus on time saved over money spent.
If I can spend $1000 to shave off 500 hours of trial-and-error (and potentially giving up), I’m a happy camper…
Especially if I know that I’ll be able to recoup my investment with the skills I learn.
These are important things to keep in mind when making any purchase.
Location Rebel Academy Review Summary
Overall, Location Rebel Academy isn’t a perfect course…
- A few blueprints could use an update
- It’s kind of tedious reading through all the text
- Oftentimes he links out to other resources for additional learning (instead of having it all nicely packaged within the course).
…but if you want to build a lifestyle business you can run from anywhere (and you’re just getting started), this is the best program I know of to get you there.
As with any course, you get out what you put in.
And if you go all-in with Location Rebel, you won’t be disappointed.

Location Rebel Alternatives
I gotta be honest with you, Location Rebel is one of a kind. I’ve scoured the web but couldn’t find any courses that can really be compared apples to apples.
The CLOSEST I’ve seen to something similar are platforms like Skillshare or Masterclass.
These are platforms that teach you pretty much anything under the sun from whatever industry you’re looking to break into by industry experts.
And when I say experts I mean experts.
In Masterclass, you can learn conservation from Jane Gooddall, or business from Mark Cuban, or even creative writing from Margaret Atwood.
On Skillshare you can take mini-courses to learn the basics of popular online skills like copywriting or digital marketing.
However, neither of these programs give you the freedom to explore ALL of your options to becoming truly location-independent.
Sure you could probably binge a bunch of lessons on them, but they weren’t designed for someone who is pursuing a life of being a digital nomad.
They can also be quite expensive, time-intensive, and don’t always go that deep.
Instead of having one course focused entirely how to get you to your ultimate goal of living anywhere in the world, you have to select what lessons/career you want to take with their many offerings.
And instead of a one-time payment, you have to subscribe monthly or yearly to continue access.
Because of the staggered approach in developing a new skill, platforms like Masterclass or Skillshare are great alternatives ONLY if you already know what you want to do, but want to learn how to do it.
But Location Rebel is for people who aren’t really sure what they want, all they know is they want to find a way to earn money from anywhere.
So if that’s your goal (and you enjoy writing), Location Rebel will help you get there.
On the other hand, if you are already 100% sure you want to make a living writing online and you don’t need to see all the potential pathways for beginners, then there are some attractive alternative options.
Ship 30 to 30 and Premium Ghostwriting Academy both teach different methods to earn a living online as a writer, and both were created by the same founders.
The difference between these two courses (and Location Rebel) is that these other courses are laser-focused on writing and go more in-depth.
Premium Ghostwriting Academy naturally focuses on freelance ghostwriting for high-level clients. If this sounds interesting, I highly recommend checking out their free guide that’s packed with tips on how to get started.
Ship 30 for 30 teaches a more general method on how to stand out and get noticed on the internet — focusing a lot on Twitter/X.
Once you have the right eyeballs, you can monetize your writing in several ways.
Here’s a ginormous free eBook that goes over the entire strategy.
While Location Rebel does a great job helping beginners choose their path and get started, Ship 30 and PGA both provide much more granular help on how to earn a living online as a writer while staying up-to-date with AI and cutting-edge tech.
Mitch is your typical nomadic backpacker. Or at least, he was. But after stopping in Colombia to take “one week” of salsa lessons, his life took a sharp left turn. He met a cute Colombian girl in dance class, fell in love, and got married. Over half a decade has passed since he left his career to travel the world as a digital nomad, and he’s never looked back.
Nowadays, he’s the blogger behind Project Untethered — where he runs an awesome email newsletter and Youtube channel teaching adventure-craved wanderlusters how to escape the rat race, earn money from anywhere, and build an “untethered life”.
His advice has been featured in Forbes, USA Today, Yahoo, MSN, Reader’s Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, and more.
