Passive Income Geek review: What you need to know
The Passive Income Geek course covers everything you need to know to build fully-monetized niche websites. The beginner-friendly strategy involves finding underserved topics that are easy to rank on Google, then earning via ad revenue and affiliate marketing.
That said, after putting it to the test, I found that the course does have some weaknesses, and it’s not right for everyone.
Before whipping out your credit card, there are some things you should know.
Let’s start by investigating who created the course.
Morten Storgaard review: Who even is this guy?
Morten Storgaard is a family man from Denmark who has spent the last 15 years building passive income websites.
Tired of being in debt and working long hours, he began building niche websites — many of which he shares within the course — that allowed him to spend more time with his family, travel, and live debt-free.
He’s the founder of Passive Income Geek and runs a popular YouTube channel of the same name.
What’s included in Morten Storgaard’s Passive Income Geek course?
The Passive Income Geek Course is broken down into five main parts:
- The Passive Income Geek (main course)
- Build with Us bonus
- Advance Tactics section
- The Community
- The Income Calculator
#1.) The Passive Income Geek
The Passive Income Geek is the main course you can take in succession or in any order you’d like based on your needs. I decided to follow it in order because I found that a ton of the information builds on each other.
Here’s a quick summary of the modules below:
- Choosing a niche. Find a profitable niche and avoid oversaturated ones that make ranking on Google feel like an uphill battle.
- Topic research. The science of researching keywords that actually rank and finding high-demand topics.
- Finding a domain name. Pick a domain name that’s both scalable and memorable so you don’t have to rebrand two years in.
- Setting up your website. Avoid typical missteps by setting your WordPress up for success from the very beginning
- Writing awesome content. Learn to write headlines and intros like a champ so readers keep scrolling.
- SEO tips. All things SEO like legit snippets, handy plugins, and letting Google know exactly when you publish so you’re not lost in the shuffle for two weeks until the algorithm discovers you.
- Monetization. Learn the ropes of running ads, affiliate programs, and email campaigns so you can receive a solid ROI for all your awesome writing.
- Social media. Nab your website brand on each of the socials and learn how to use them to drive traffic.
The Passive Income Geek is a self-paced online course consisting of text and videos.
While testing the course, I found that Morten’s approach was super easy to follow. In fact, it was probably one of the most beginner-friendly blogging courses I have personally taken.
You don’t need any tools, resources, or prior knowledge to jump in and start building websites.
That said, this course isn’t only for the noobies. Those who have been in the blogging game for years can find new tips and strategies for growing their websites.
When you first hop into a module, Morten begins by introducing the main topic before diving into theoretical knowledge and action steps.
The course is noticeably fluff-free and doesn’t use technical jargon you’ll have to research. The “why” behind each strategy is always explained.
I found this really helpful because it helped me understand the concept of the strategy instead of just copying the strategy. This understanding made it easy to customize the strategy to grow my blog.
For visual learners, there are 68 over-the-shoulder videos where you can watch Morten apply his tactics directly. You can even watch him build an entire website from scratch! More on that later.
Here’s an example of a lesson:
#2.) Build with us
Want to actually see Morten build an entire website from scratch using his unique methodology? Boom. Here you have it.
Morten practices what he preaches by sharing a whopping 15 hours of raw and unedited video content.
So if you’re stuck on landing affiliate programs and want to see how Morten does it, you can.
This module is divided into sections and follows the main course so you can easily move to any part of the website creation process.
This is a fantastic resource that keeps you on track by demonstrating the entire website creation process.
It turns theory into practice, and it’s something you don’t often see in such detail with other blogging courses. I found this particularly helpful when building out my own affiliate marketing strategy.
Here’s an example of Morten searching for keywords for his site:
#3.) Advanced tactics
The advanced tactics modules are for bloggers who’ve hit the $1000 per month or 50,000 page views per month mark.
Say you’re ready to navigate outsourcing, Morten’s got more than a few tips for how to find and hire reliable and affordable writers.
Morten also lays out ways to boost your affiliate marketing income, fix broken links on your site, and use HARO to build strong backlinks to your site.
While these modules weren’t as lengthy or detailed as the main course, there are still several gold nuggets in here that will help you move the needle.
Here are the topics covered:
- Outsourcing content
- Advanced topic research
- Advanced monetization
- Advanced SEO tactics
- Selling your website
#4.) The community
Unlike many courses out there that have dead, useless communities, The Passive Income Geek community is moderately active with new posts almost daily. Morten himself even regularly jumps in on the action.
My favorite aspect of the community is how it’s totally separate from social media — it’s a clean forum accessed through the website. Not a busy Facebook page loaded with distractions.
If we’re being completely honest, I wouldn’t say it’s the most engaged blogging community in existence (more on that later). But it is a place where you can find support, and it’s certainly the best community I’ve seen that comes with a course at this price point.
There’s even a thread where you can get a free 1,000 words of content.
#5.) The income calculator
The income calculator is a tool designed to show you the earning potential of your niche website.
This nifty tool incorporates variables like the number of articles you crank out per month, estimated earnings per pageview, and your expenses to populate potential earnings.
You can play around with the numbers, which is immensely helpful for planning purposes.
For example, by tweaking the variables, you can get a rough idea of how much more money you could earn if you publish 15 articles a month rather than 10. Or how outsourcing 50 percent of your writing would impact your earnings and ROI.
If you’re in the early days of writing content and need some encouragement, this could be a handy tool to see the earning potential of Morten’s business model when you stick with the process.
Keep in mind, the calculator isn’t a guarantee of what you’re going to earn. It’s just a tool for estimating the potential.
The Passive Income Geek Course pros ✅
✅ Teaches a proven strategy. Morten has used the exact same strategy to build passive income sites in multiple different niches (he even shares many of them in the course). These sites draw in tens of thousands of dollars per month in passive income from ads and affiliates.
✅ Easy to follow. In an industry full of shiny objects, Morten’s simple approach lasers in on what get the best results, saving you time and money. His no-fluff step-by-step approach to building niche websites is beginner-friendly and easy to follow.
✅ Crazy value. The bang for your buck is no joke. This is the most affordable blogging/affiliate marketing course that gives you a complete blueprint for passive income sites.
✅ No-risk guarantee. If you decide the course isn’t for you, let the team know within 30 days, and you’ll receive a full refund. It’s reassuring to know you can change your mind for any reason.
✅ Completely “white hat” approach. Some courses teach strategies that Google would frown upon, which could lead to penalties down the road. Morten’s strategy is 100% above board, which helps keep your site safe.
✅ The “build with us” module is gold. Watch Morten put his money where his mouth is and build a site from scratch alongside you.
✅ Clever keyword research strategies. Finding easy-to-rank keywords is the key to success with this business model. And Morten reveals some clever strategies for hunting these unicorn keywords down that I’d never heard of before (and I’ve taken many blogging courses!).
The Passive Income Geek cons ❌
❌ Lacks social media strategies. This course consists of Morten showing exactly what HE does to build successful niche sites. His strategy doesn’t rely much on social media, so he doesn’t include much info on it. I believe social media may become more important for niche sites in the future, so it would be nice if he found guest speakers to go deeper into these topics.
That said, if you’re starting your first site from scratch, you likely won’t have much time to dedicate to social media anyway. If you try to do everything right from the beginning, you’ll spread yourself too thin (been there, done that). So in a way, brushing over social media may actually help you focus more on the important tasks that’ll get you off the ground faster.
❌ No freebies or discounts. Morten doesn’t use free course funnels or limited-time discounts or high-pressure countdown timers. Instead, he offers his price and his 30-day refund period, and you can take it or leave it. No drama. (Now that I’m writing this, I’m starting to think this is actually a positive thing 🤔)
❌ User interface takes some getting used to. If you’re going straight through the course from start to finish, it’s pretty straightforward and easy. But if you want to hop around lessons and modules, the navigation takes some getting used to. Not a dealbreaker, but it’s something that could be improved.
TL;DR: Is The Passive Income Geek worth it?
The Passive Income Geek isn’t perfect by any means. But it delivers on its promise.
If you stick with the course and complete the action steps, you’ll walk away with a monetized niche website.
The Passive Income Geek is not the most advanced blogging or affiliate marketing training program in the world. It doesn’t have fancy bells and whistles, and it doesn’t cover any crazy complex tactics.
Instead, it focuses on the absolute simplest process to success. It includes everything you need to get your first site off the ground and earn passive income.
If you want to dabble in more advanced tactics once you’ve established a steady income, more power to you. You can invest in an advanced course once you’re actually making money. But until then, these advanced tactics aren’t necessary and can end up being expensive distractions.
All that said, it’s worth mentioning that NO course will work for you if you aren’t persistent. This is a long-term play. If you want to succeed, you have to hustle, be patient, and stick with the process.
The Passive Income Geek is for you if:
✅ You want a beginner-friendly course without breaking the bank.
✅ You’ve been blogging for a while, but not getting the results you’d like.
✅ You’re willing to put in serious front-loaded effort before the passive income faucet turns on.
The Passive Income Geek is NOT for you if:
❌ You want to use social media as your traffic source (this course focuses on organic Google traffic).
❌ You aren’t planning to take action and get your hands dirty.
❌ You think blogging is the path to quick riches.
Is there a Passive Income Geek discount code?
There don’t seem to be any discount codes for Passive Income Geek.
That said, even without a discount, it’s still cheaper than similar courses on the market and is the best bang for your buck if you’re on a tight budget.

Passive Income Geek alternatives
There are several Passive Income Geek alternatives, and I’ve taken the most popular options.
The most comparable course to Passive Income Geek is Jon Dykstra’s Niche Site Profits course (AKA the Fat Stacks bundle).
Passive Income Geek vs. Niche Site Profits
Overall, they are both excellent courses that teach similar strategies.
The pros to Niche Site Profits are:
- The community is bigger and more engaged. It’s one of my favorite places to stay up to date with the latest niche site news.
- There are modules for various social media platforms like Facebook and Pinterest.
- Seems to be updated more often than Passive Income Geek.
- Jon offers a free mini course to get to know his style.
For more details, see my complete review of the Niche Site Profits course.
The pros to Passive Income Geek are:
- You can join at any time without dealing with marketing tactics.
- It’s easier to follow because there are fewer shiny objects to get distracted by.
- It’s cheaper than Niche Site Profits, making it more accessible for anyone on a tight budget.
Basically, if you want to invest the minimum money possible for training that teaches a straightforward path to passive income sites, then choose PIG.
But if you have more money to invest, there are more comprehensive programs on the market.
Passive Income Geek vs. Authority Hacker vs. The Affiliate Lab
Two of those more comprehensive programs are Authority Hacker (50% off with my affiliate link) and The Affiliate Lab ($200 off with my affiliate link).
Both AH and TAL lean more towards monetizing with affiliate marketing (vs. PIG which focuses more on ads).
AH and TAL are both more comprehensive and updated more frequently than PIG (although PIG recently added several updated).
That said, even after the discounts, AH and TAL cost several hundred dollars more — not ideal for tight budgets. For more details on TAL, check out my full Affiliate Lab review. And for the full school on TASS, see my Authority Hacker review.
In the end, you have to decide whether you want to:
- Pay more for all the bells and whistles, advanced tactics, and cutting-edge updates, or
- Save money and stick to the distraction-free, tried-and-true basics.
The more expensive courses are jammed with clever strategies, but as a beginner, you risk getting lost in the weeds.
There is no right or wrong answer here. Every single one of these 4 courses can help you achieve financial freedom with passive income websites.
But Passive Income Geek is the most affordable of the bunch.
Mitch is your typical nomadic backpacker. Or at least, he was. But after stopping in Colombia to take “one week” of salsa lessons, his life took a sharp left turn. He met a cute Colombian girl in dance class, fell in love, and got married. Over half a decade has passed since he left his career to travel the world as a digital nomad, and he’s never looked back.
Nowadays, he’s the blogger behind Project Untethered — where he runs an awesome email newsletter and Youtube channel teaching adventure-craved wanderlusters how to escape the rat race, earn money from anywhere, and build an “untethered life”.
His advice has been featured in Forbes, USA Today, Yahoo, MSN, Reader’s Digest, Condé Nast Traveler, and more.
