Scale Your Travel Blog is a course that teaches you strategies for growing your travel blog into a consistent money-making machine. It’s unique from other blogging courses in that it includes a significant amount of personalized feedback and live coaching, making it much more than a simple digital course.

That said, it’s not perfect, and it’s definitely not right for everyone.

Before making any rash decisions, there are some things you should know.

Laura and Mike review: Who even are these people?

Laura and Mike are the founders of Mike and Laura Travel, a blog all about the digital nomad and travel lifestyle. 

They transformed their blog from a mere hobby into a full-blown, money-making machine — and have been featured in 30 publications including Yahoo News and Fodor’s Travel. 

After uncovering a proven blogging strategy and experiencing the freedom of location-independent passive income, they became determined to help others do the same.

#2.) Professional site audit

A full, two-part site audit is also included with the course. 

The first part focuses on on-page SEO, where you’ll get personalized suggestions on how to make your site more user-friendly (and more Google-friendly). 

The second part is where things get exciting – it’s all about off-page SEO, backlinks, affiliate marketing, and sometimes a sprinkle of email marketing, depending on your site’s situation.

We took a look at a site audit Laura did for a past student, and she goes so in depth it’s crazy. These audits include up to 1.5 hours of feedback. 

She shows you how to improve your site performance, how to use keyword research tools to strategically grow your site, and how to run your own site audits in the future to make sure it stays healthy.

This is super useful for beginners and experts alike. 

It allows beginners to sharpen their content creation skills right out of the gates, so they don’t waste time publishing articles that aren’t good enough to rank. 

For experts, it give you a fresh set of eyes. Oftentimes when you do something one way for a long time, it’s hard to find ways to improve unless you have a trained outside perspective (speaking from experience here). 

In addition to these reviews and outlines, Laura also gives you 25+ keywords that you can use to improve SEO on your site. This is extremely valuable, especially if you’re struggling to find these gold-nugget keywords that your site has a chance to rank for in Google.

#4.) Facebook community

The Facebook community is small with only about 500 members, but as you can see, it’s quite active. 

Laura uses the community to keep everyone updated with the latest industry trends, and the community is extremely supportive.

Having a community to turn to when you need motivation or your questions answered is invaluable. And from what I’ve seen in this community, it’s super wholesome.

Apart from support, the community also has:

• A Job Board if you’re looking to hire someone or find a side hustle.
• Collab and guest posting threads to build easy backlinks.
• Biweekly Q&As open to everyone, forever.

#5.) Group coaching

Speaking from experience here — even if you have the best travel blog training lessons in the world, it’s still easy to get stuck. 

Taking a DIY lone wolf approach is a recipe for disaster.

SYTB recognizes this, so in addition to all the video lessons and custom feedback, you also get 12 group coaching calls, monthly coffee hours calls, and 6 monthly Q&A’s (these are separate and more intimate than the biweekly Q&As in the Facebook community). 

I’ve gone through a couple of group coaching calls and one thing that really stood out to me is the attention each student gets.

For example, there are typically only 2-6 students on the Q&A calls, which means tons of personalized feedback and coaching from Laura. 

Many students say that these calls are the most valuable part of the course. 

Scale Your Travel Blog cons ❌

❌ Price. SYTB is pricy compared to other blog trainings. But you can’t really compare SYTB to a “normal” course. The level of personalized feedback you receive blows all other travel blogging courses out of the water. If I were starting a travel blog from scratch today, this type of custom guidance is exactly what I’d be looking for to start earning STAT.

❌ Lack of diversification. SYTB focuses mostly on SEO and driving organic traffic from Google to monetize your blog and grow your email list. This is the same strategy I used to grow our travel blog, and it’s extremely powerful. But with recent algorithm changes, it’s wise to diversify your traffic sources and not put all your eggs in one basket. They discuss additional traffic sources in the group coaching calls, so you do get some exposure, but it’s not the main focus of the course.

✅ Most comprehensive travel blogging course online (by far). Nowhere else on the internet will you find a travel blogging course that offers this level of detail and personalized guidance.  

✅ Small, tight-knit community. Compared to other travel blogging courses where unlimited students can join, Scale Your Travel Blog has limited seats, allowing you to receive more personalized help and really get to know your fellow students. This is awesome for networking and collaborations. 

✅ Crazy amount of hand-holding. The big differentiator between SYTB and other courses is the crazy amount of live, personalized help you get. It’s hard to appreciate just how valuable this is unless you’ve wasted hundreds of hours failing to figure things out yourself (been there, done that). 

✅ Lifetime access. Unlike other blogging courses that run on subscription models, you get lifetime access to the course content. 

✅ Fair refund policy. You can test-ride the course for 14 days to decide if it’s worth it to you. If not, they’ll refund your money.  

TL;DR: Is Scale Your Travel Blog worth it?

Scale Your Travel Blog is worth it for noobie travel bloggers or intermediate bloggers whose income is “stuck”. If I had joined this course when I first started, I probably could’ve cut a year off my learning curve. 

That said, it only makes sense if you plan to take advantage of all the live coaching and personalized feedback. 

The group coaching, a site audit, keyword research, blog reviews, and a helpful community make this program one of the best out there for anyone looking to turn their travel blog into a full-time business.

All that said, while I recommend following the SYTB strategy, I also advise diversifying with other traffic sources. Free Google traffic isn’t as easy as it once was, so it’s wise to divide your eggs into at least one other basket (without spreading yourself too thin).

Scale Your Travel Blog alternatives

In addition to Scale Your Travel Blog, I’ve also taken two other popular travel blogging training programs — Nomadic Matt’s Superstar Blogging and Travel Blog Prosperity. 

Nomadic Matt’s Superstar Blogging course (AKA Business of Blogging) has morphed a lot over the years. 

It used to offer a limited amount of personalized help back in the day, but I found it disappointing. 

I once sent an article draft in for Matt’s team to edit, and the feedback made my article feel stale and boring. It was a waste of time. 

He used to offer unlimited tech support, which was a helpful. But they’ve since removed this from the program. This seemed unfair to me since the course I originally bought included “unlimited tech support”.

Anyway, now the course seems to just be barebones lessons with no personalized help. If you’re on an extreme budget and can’t find a way to afford SYTB, then Superstar Blogging might be worth it. (But if it were me, I’d save slightly more until I could afford one of the affiliate marketing courses linked below). 

Another option is Travel Blog Prosperity by Jesse Festa. 

This is a subscription-model course, so you pay for access to the community and trainings each month. 

Overall, I’d say the Travel Blog Prosperity is a great starter course to get your bearings, but it goes wide rather than deep. 

It covers more monetization methods and strategies than Scale Your Travel Blog, but I felt like it didn’t always get into the nitty-gritty practical information. 

That said, since you can just sign up for a month if you want, you’re not required to make as big as a commitment as you are with SYTB. Check out my Travel Blog Prosperity review for more details. 

Finally, in addition to comparing SYTB to other travel blogging courses, you also might want to consider a general niche site or affiliate marketing course. 

These types of courses don’t focus specifically on travel blogging, but their principles can be applied to the travel niche.
